This is the real threat to the future of deer hunting

Rep. Scott Gunderson (R-Waterford) would like everyone to think that the future of hunting is being threatened because we don't allow third graders to kill deer with guns. He may want to read this story from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel so he can start to focus on the real threat to hunting in Wisconsin.

The story reveals that a deer farm in Portage County had a Chronic Wasting Disease(CWD) infection rate of 79%! A scary fact by itself, but it gets scarier when you remember this:

On Jan. 12, the game farm's fence had been found deliberately cut and deer tracks had been seen going in and out of the fence in the snow.

Hall told authorities that as many as 40 bucks were living in that section of the farm - a 59-acre enclosure. But when sharpshooters moved through the area, they found only four deer.

So who knows how many infected deer are out and about with the wild population. Rep. Gunderson's efforts to increase his gun sales, I mean protect the future of hunting in Wisconsin would be better spent focused on CWD.

I am not anti-hunting. In fact, we just found out our deer sausage is ready to be picked up today and I'm excited about that. However, I insisted on getting the deer tested for CWD before we had it processed. It cost a lot of extra money to do this and I think many hunters will choose to skip the hunting instead of forking over the extra cash to make sure the deer is safe to eat.
