Where putting hate in a constitution leads

A funeral for a Wisconsin soldier unfortunately became a horrible display of where teaching people that it is ok to hate people you don't even know can lead. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today has story about a protest about gay people at a soldier's funeral in Ripon, Wisconsin.

The protesters had things like this to say about the soldier's death:

They dragged a U.S. flag on the ground while carrying signs that said "Thank God for dead soldiers" and "Thank God for IEDs," a reference to the improvised explosive device that killed Wallace.

They say the soldier died as God's revenge on a nation that accepts homosexuality. This is where teaching and promoting hate like the constitutional ban on civil unions and marriage leads to.

I am very sorry the friends and family of this honorable man that died in service to our country had to drive through this to say goodbye to him. But I am ever hopeful that tolerance will only spread and grow in our nation.
