When the NRA comes to town

The National Rifle Association (NRA) immediately promised to do everything they can to defeat the two Democrats in the Wisconsin State Assembly that they think should have voted against upholding the governor's veto of the concealed carry legislation. When they come to town with their money, mailings and ads trying to tell folks in Wisconsin that they know better than local law enforcement in Wisconsin, people would be wise to consider the source.

The NRA listed renewal of the opposition to the assault weapons ban as a criteria for backing a candidate in 2002. They claimed that the federal proposal to require gun manufacturers to equip guns with a child safety lock would mean the end of hunting and safety. They also took a sledgehammer to the feelings of the folks in the Denver suburb of Littleton, Colorado by having their annual NRA meeting in Denver 11 days after the school shooting there.

And they believe that no one ever invokes the self-defense argument that wasn't really committing a terrible crime and trying to get away with it. According to a story in the Seattle Times, they are pushing for a law that says people have no duty to retreat from an attacker before using deadly force.

So when an NRA flyer comes to your house accusing your local legislator of being anti-gun, consider the source.
